The kinesiology field has lost one of its inaugural leaders.

Jack Wilmore, co-author of Physiology of Sport and Exercise, died at the age of 76 on November 17th in Sun Lakes, Arizona.   Jack helped lead the profession of physical education into the diverse and highly specialized sport and exercise sciences making up the field of kinesiology.  Jack helped re-engineer higher education as more universities developed degrees in the kinesiology fields and professions.

Two-time Human Kinetics author Brent Cuthbertson passed away Tuesday, October 28, following a heart attack. The death of the healthy, active 54-year-old comes as a great shock to all who have come to know him.

Alan Launder died in London on August 31. He was 80 years old. Alan was the author of Play Practice, a groundbreaking book in helping coaches and teachers teach and motivate students and athletes.

Don Morris passed away August 21 of melanoma at UCLA Medical Center in California. Don coauthored Changing Kids’ Games, which is considered a classic in helping change attitudes about physical education by showing teachers how to modify games to suit all children’s developmental needs. 

On August 10, Pat Duffy, vice president of strategy and development for the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) and the chief architect of the International Sport Coaching Framework, passed away after a year-and-a-half battle with brain cancer.

Maureen Weiss has been named the new editor of Kinesiology Review (KR), the official journal of the National Academy of Kinesiology and the American Kinesiology Association.

This fall, WILL TV, a Central Illinois PBS affiliate, is presenting a new series, Illinois Pioneers with David Inge, which celebrates the people, places, and things that have made significant contributions to the historical, social, and economic conditions in Illinois. HK’s founder and president, Rainer Martens, was featured on Thursday, September 25. 

HK author Jerry R. Nick Bollettieri was part of the 2014 class inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum. Nick is the author of Nick Bollettieri’s Tennis Handbook, Second Edition, and the Nick Bollettieri DVD Collection.

Congratulations to author Douglas Brooks, who was named 2014 IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year at the IDEA World Fitness Convention in August.
