The Volleyball Coaching Bible contributors face off in the NCAA Division I Championship
John Dunning and Mike Hebert, contributors to The Volleyball Coaching Bible and head women's volleyball coaches for Stanford and Minnesota, respectively, found their teams on opposite sides of the net at Long Beach Arena on December 18th. Of course, only one could walk off the floor as the NCAA Division I champion, and in this matchup Dunning's Stanford team triumphed with a 3-0 victory.

A team is far more than merely a group; it's a coordinated ensemble that cooperates to achieve a common goal that overrides individual achievement. Also, a dedication to teamwork does not necessarily diminish individual effort. Individual efforts are seen as necessary to teamwork, but they are not enough. Team members (as opposed to teammates) include not only the performing athletes but also coaches and other professionals who contribute to team development and performance. Even parents, although there are critical boundary issues to consider, can be considered an important part of the team.

From Fuel for Young Athletes

An athlete's training should include lessons about foods that are and aren't well tolerated before physical activity. Young athletes should understand the importance of fueling during events and eating immediately afterward to recover.
Pregame meals are those meals eaten three to six hours before a game or other activity. The purpose of a pregame meal is to keep the blood sugar in a normal range and to add to the existing glycogen stores so that your athlete has a maximum amount of fuel before the event. The pregame meal should be well digested but filling enough for the athlete to avoid hunger during competition.
