Incorporating Drills into Practices
from The Baseball Drill Book
by American Baseball Coaches Association
Practice has several purposes. Learning to perform, developing, maintaining, and perfecting skills are the basic objectives of a beneficial practice. In the pursuit of these objectives, such areas as discipline, teamwork, persistence, timing, mental toughness, responsibility, organization, and gamesmanship play important roles during practice. Coaches should ensure that learning, developing, maintaining, and perfecting skills are included in each practice. A good practice session also invigorates, enlightens, teaches, develops, excites, encourages, and promotes teamwork among team members.
Assessing Your Athletic Alignment and Performance Posture
from Jumpmetrics
by Alan Tyson and Ben Cook
Posture is body position either characteristic or assumed for a special purpose. In this book, we differentiate between posture that is characteristic and posture that is assumed for a special purpose. Characteristic posture is what you commonly think of when you hear the word posture. Do you have flat feet? Is your head forward or do you tend to slouch when you stand? Your parents were right when they said posture is very important in how we all function. If you have bad posture, you will be less effective as an athlete. Assumed posture refers to getting into and out of different positions based on your sport. Do you have good posture when you jump, cut, sprint, and so on? If you don't, or you're not sure, then chances are you are not maximizing your potential as an athlete, and worse, you may be placing yourself in potentially harmful situations.
